January 2024 Newsletter

2024 will be a big year for the Green Party of New Brunswick! It’s election year and we’re excited. We have more than 20 outstanding candidates and are raising money to fund competitive campaigns. We have new RDAs (Registered District Associations) in every corner of the province - and we’re just getting started!

Starting now, we will be knocking on doors, phoning voters and listening to New Brunswickers. There’s frustration with the Higgs government and just switching from blue to red is not working. Greens offer a real choice. It’s time to elect MLAs that put people ahead of party-Green MLAs, more than ever!

Another reason to vote Green is that this year marks 6 years since the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change released a report stating that the world has just 12 years to rapidly cut our emissions to avoid the most catastrophic impacts of a changing climate. We now have just 6 years left to achieve that goal.  There is a lot of work to be done to reduce our emissions and protect our natural carbon sinks to draw down those emissions here at home.

The Green Party of New Brunswick has ambitious goals for the year ahead. We rely on your support. I am calling on each and every one of you to get involved. You can help shape the future of our province by donating or volunteering to power successful election campaigns, or by becoming a member of your RDA.

We are also still seeking candidates for ridings without announced candidates. If you, or someone you know, is passionate about community service and participatory democracy, fill out our candidate application form or contact me to set up a meeting.

Join us in making 2024 a turning point for our province. A Greener government is a better government.

Volunteer Spotlight

Genevieve Macrae and Myriam Cormier

We want to recognize Genevieve and Myriam, our two New Brunswick representatives who traveled to Kitchener, Ontario to help with the very successful byelection in Kitchener Centre which elected Aislinn Clancy as the second Green MPP to the Ontario Legislature! Genevieve and Myriam brought fresh energy to Aislinn’s campaign, and have returned to New Brunswick with invaluable experience working on a winning campaign – which will be such an asset in our 2024 election campaign.

Greens across Canada are all motivated by the same core principles, and so our network extends far beyond provincial boundaries. A win for the Green Party of Ontario is just as much a win for us here at home. Having elected Greens helps everyone by bringing Green values and principles into the decision-making process and changing the political conversation across Canada and beyond.

A very special thank you to Genevieve Macrae and Myriam Cormier for stepping up to volunteer in the Kitchener Centre byelection and congratulations on your winning campaign!

The front man of the band Les Hotesses d’Hilaire, Serge Brideau, was a Green candidate in the last spring byelection in Bathurst East-Nepisiguit-Saint-Isidore and is the Green candidate for the 2024 election in the new riding of Hautes-Terres-Nepisiguit.

Coldest Night of the Year

Register to walk with David Coon and the Green team for the Coldest Night of the Year - a fundraiser for local charities that serve people experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness. With homelessness on the rise across this province and country, this annual fundraiser is even more important right now, so we hope you will join us or donate to the team. Thank you in advance!

RDA Meetings

Registered District Associations (RDAs) are the local riding-level branches of our party. They help to select candidates, recruit members and volunteers, raise funds, organize events, and prepare for election campaigns.

By becoming a member of the Green Party of New Brunswick, you are automatically a member of your local RDA. All members in good standing* may vote to elect executive members, nominate candidates, and vote on Green Party resolutions.

Below is a list of the upcoming meetings of RDAs:

  • Albert-Riverview RDA Founding Meeting Thursday, January 11 @ 6pm - Zoom link

*All members will receive invitations to their RDA meeting, but anyone is welcome to join. If you would like more information about a specific meeting, please contact our regional mobilizers, Addison Fach at [email protected], or Myriam Cormier at [email protected] and they will be happy to assist you. Please note members must be active for at least 14 days prior to meetings to be eligible to vote on their RDAs.
