FREDERICTON - Yesterday in the Legislature, Green Party Leader and MLA for Fredericton South David Coon tabled a motion calling on the government to ban the spraying of herbicides, such as glyphosate, on Crown Lands and to limit clearcut logging to harvesting on tree plantations, while negotiating shared-decision making with First Nations.

“Crown lands were never ceded or surrendered to the Crown by First Nations,” he stated. “It's time for the government to recognize this and enter into co-management agreements so that First Nations have a seat at the decision-making table regarding the use and management of Crown lands.”

“The conservation of New Brunswick’s Crown forests and waters is essential to the well-being of our environment, to the survival of the species that live there, and to the overall health of our rural communities,” said Coon. “The Provincial government has got to stop the degradation of our forests and rivers by ending clearcutting and herbicide spraying and embark on a path of restoration and reconciliation.”

Le chef du parti vert appelle à mettre fin aux pratiques forestières néfastes pour l'environnement

FREDERICTON - Hier, à l'Assemblée législative, le chef du Parti vert et député de Fredericton-Sud, David Coon, a déposé une motion demandant au gouvernement d'interdire l'épandage d'herbicides, comme le glyphosate, sur les terres de la Couronne et de limiter la coupe à blanc à la récolte dans les plantations d'arbres, tout en négociant avec les Premières nations le partage du pouvoir de décision.

« Les terres de la Couronne n'ont jamais été cédées ou abandonnées à la Couronne par les Premières Nations », a-t-il déclaré. « Il est temps que le gouvernement le reconnaisse et conclue des accords de cogestion afin que les Premières Nations aient un siège à la table des décisions concernant l'utilisation et la gestion des terres de la Couronne. »

« La conservation des forêts et des eaux de la Couronne du Nouveau-Brunswick est essentielle au bien-être de notre environnement, à la survie des espèces qui y vivent et à la santé générale de nos communautés rurales », a déclaré M. Coon. « Le gouvernement provincial doit mettre fin à la dégradation de nos forêts et de nos rivières en arrêtant les coupes à blanc et les épandages d'herbicides, et s'engager sur la voie de la restauration et de la réconciliation. »
