About Tim Thompson

Tim Thompson was raised in Quispamsis, New Brunswick by his mother, Carol, a hardworking nurse and single mother of five. He was posted back to the Oromocto area in 2017 after a posting in Calgary, Alberta. After some time in Military Housing, his family purchased a home where he could run a homestead/hobby farm. Tim serves as a full-time reservist at base Gagetown. Having served 18 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, Tim Thompson plans to take his proven leadership experience, his sense of community and love for the area to the Provincial Legislature as the next MLA for Oromocto - Sunbury.

As a youth, Tim spent his summers with his family exploring the scenery that New Brunswick has to offer. He was often found on the Wolastoq/Saint John River navigating the extensive river system from Saint John to Fredericton.
Often, he could be found spending time on middle island enjoying the sandbars and views of the Burton Bridge. In the winter months, he and his family skied the slopes of Poley and Crabbe Mountain and can often be found on the snowmobile trails taking full advantage of the beauty of New Brunswick all year round.

Tim is a graduate of the New Brunswick Community College in Miramichi and received his Bachelor’s Degree from St. Thomas University in 2011. While in university, Tim instructed sailing at the Lincoln sailing school for the Royal Canadian Sea cadets.

Tim’s desire to enter politics and run for the Green Party of New Brunswick was inspired by the core values taught to him by his family and fellow community members. Tim believes that New Brunswick must move forward to provide better access to healthcare and education, all while ensuring a safe and positive work experience for teachers, nurses, frontline workers and support staff. The spring freshets of 2018 and 2019 have also motivated Tim to join the Green Team as he was affected by the rising river water like many fellow New Brunswickers.

Tim is a member of the Cadet Instructor Cadre branch of the Canadian Armed Forces. He has dedicated over 18 years to working in Canadian communities and providing our youth with better opportunities. His leadership skills with the Canadian Armed Forces have provided him an opportunity to live and work in rural and urban centres across Canada. While working in Alberta, Tim organized the communities of Okotoks and Airdrie to form new sea cadet units, providing youth more access to local programs. In an effort to spread cultural awareness and to bring communities together, Tim led the organization of a Cultural Awareness Weekend and Powwow for cadets across the Maritimes held in Elsipogtog, New Brunswick.

Tim has also volunteered to work as a civilian alongside Canadian military members in Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates. He was deployed on 3 assignments overseas to aid in the support of our troops in their missions. During his time there, he worked with Canadians of all backgrounds and developed exceptional leadership skills. Tim believes that New Brunswick has an opportunity to demonstrate to the rest of Canada that together we can make life more affordable, bring communities together, make our differences our strengths, and lead the nation on sustainable practices in the forestry and energy sectors. He believes that as New Brunswickers, we owe it to ourselves and to Canada to use our wealth of natural resources responsibly, and sustainably, while we work towards a greener future powered by a diversified economy.

When Tim is not working, he spends his time outdoors enjoying the natural beauty of New Brunswick with his partner Travis Simms and their rescue animals. Tim has a small homestead where he raises chickens, turkeys, ducks and
grows a large portion of his vegetables for the year. He can often be found enjoying all that New Brunswick has to offer but also enjoys taking trips with his family and friends to learn about other cultures. Tim enjoys making people
happy, bringing communities together and making the most of life.
