About Sarah Lord

Sarah Lord first moved to Riverview when she was seven. Even at that young age, as a member of St. Paul’s United Church, she pursued leadership roles in several youth groups. A graduate of Riverview High School and Mount Allison University, Sarah holds a Bachelor of Science Degree with Honours in Biochemistry. A diabetes diagnosis in her family propelled Sarah towards an honors thesis on insulin mimetics for the treatment of Type 1 Diabetes, then she furthered her education, receiving a Ph.D. in islet transplantation from the University of Alberta. Sarah spent three years working for a biotech company before returning home to be with her mother during her battle with stage 4 breast cancer.

Currently employed as the Health & Wellness Coordinator for Jean Coutu Pharmacy in Riverview, Sarah now organizes clinics and helps clients access necessary healthcare services and education. Her role places her on the frontline of community service, and she’s seen firsthand the critical need for improved access to primary care, affordable housing, public transportation, and a livable wage for all. She’s advocated for better supports for the unhoused and low income, and for the compassionate integration into community of those with substance use disorder or mental illness.

Outside of her professional and community engagements, Sarah finds joy in bringing people together. She launched her own guided tour company, Maritime Detours, to introduce people to the province’s hidden beauty. Then, in 2018, she co-founded Women of the Wilderness (WOW), a group fostering outdoor adventure, leadership skills and camaraderie among women of all ages.

Sarah resides with her common-law partner, Roger Cormier, along with her stepdaughter, stepson, his boyfriend, and their beloved Havanese dog, Milo.
