(FREDERICTON, NB) – Strong legislation and the courage to implement it is what is needed to ensure pay equity becomes a part of the way we do business in New Brunswick's public and private sectors, Green Party Leader David Coon said in Fredericton, today.

"Women in New Brunswick want and need better than promises and progress reports," Coon said. "Previous governments have been toying with women's rights for too long and it's time to stop studying pay equity and start implementing legislation to ensure that the private sector pays women a fair and equitable wage based on equal pay for different work of the same value."

(Fredericton, NB) -- Green Party Leader David Coon says that, if elected, his party will open up government with transparency laws that require all government contracts to be available on-line.

"The province has been ruled by corporate interests making back room deals with government for far too long," Coon said. "These, largely family owned interests put profit ahead of a green economy and a better future for our children."

Coon said the Green Party would place the onus on civil servants to provide information to the public when requested. It would also overhaul the Right to Information Act so it treats the business of government as the business of its citizens.

(FREDERICTON, NB) – Literacy, health promotion and the restoration of trades and skill-based programs are at the top of the list of priorities for the education system under a Green Party government, Party Leader David Coon announced today in Fredericton.

"The other parties like to talk about how important education is, yet New Brunswick students go hungry to class every day," Coon said. "Our ping pong governments like to tinker with the education system, but they never seem to go the full course."

(FREDERICTON, NB) – The building momentum of the Green Party in the New Brunswick provincial election has caught the attention of federal party leader Elizabeth May, who will join provincial leader David Coon and candidates from throughout the province for a Go Green Rally and corn boil in Fredericton on Sunday afternoon.

Ms. May will be in town to bring her support to the campaign and meet members of the public during her one-day visit to the capital city.

Rally organizers say it will give people the opportunity to meet one of the most dynamic politicians in Canada today as she brings her particular brand of energy and enthusiasm to the campaign. They are hoping people of all political stripes will take advantage of the opportunity to meet and mingle with the two party leaders.

The Go Green Rally will take place at the iRock, 339 King Street, Fredericton, Sunday, Sept. 14 from 1–3 p.m. A bus will be at the SUB parking lot at 12:30 p.m. to bring students down to the afternoon event that will feature fun, food and lots of music.

Green Party Leader David Coon is calling for an end to the concentration of corporate print media ownership in the province.

“The concentration of newspaper ownership in New Brunswick undermines our democracy,” Coon said. 

All of the English language newspapers in Fredericton, Moncton and Saint John are owned by the Irvings, along with all but two of the province’s English and French language weeklies. 

The Green Party proposes to legislate a 40 per cent cap on the concentration of corporate print media ownership. 

It also calls for the elimination of the ownership of media by corporations with significant non-media interests in New Brunswick.
