Fredericton – On December 17, 2019 Green Party Leader and MLA for Fredericton-South, David Coon tabled a bill to amend the Family Income Security Act to combat poverty in the province. Click here to read the media release  

Fredericton – On November 20, 2019 Green Party Leader David Coon tabled a bill to amend the Crown Lands and Forests Act to ensure that New Brunswick mills purchase more wood from private woodlots and that the private woodlot owners are fairly compensated for the wood they produce. This bill also bans the spraying of herbicides on Crown forests.

“Successive governments have failed to implement the Auditor General’s 2015 recommendations to ensure private woodlot owners have fair access to the wood market as required by the Crown Lands and Forests Act; this bill will remedy that by requiring private wood to be purchased through the wood marketing boards and ensuring that private wood makes up a third of the wood consumed by the mills,” says David Coon.

Official Statement from Green Party Leader on the passing of Jackie Webster

My wife, Janice Harvey, and I want to extend our heartfelt condolences to Jackie Webster’s family and many friends.  She was an inspiration to both of us.

Jackie was a well-known writer, journalist, and political commentator.  She loved politics and she loved New Brunswick.  It seemed as if she knew just about everyone and all their relations too.

Today, September 24^th, 2019 marks the one-year anniversary of voters sending THREE Green Party of New Brunswick candidates to the Legislature. What a huge leap forward for our party and our province.

We want to thank everyone who voted Green, who put up a lawn sign, donated or volunteered for last year’s campaigns. If you sent us good energy or spoke favourably about a Green candidate with a neighbour or friend, it was all deeply felt.  Your actions resonated—and forever changed—this province!

David, Megan, and Kevin want to thank you personally, and share with your some of the highlights from this past year with this short video.  

Our Green MLAs are working for you, for the climate and our collective future. Thank you for all your support our first year – it certainly has been exhilarating.

Greens table a motion to declare climate emergency in NB 

Fredericton – On May 7, 2019 the Green caucus tables a motion calling on the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick to declare climate emergency.

“One of the key reasons I ran for office was to tackle climate breakdown,” says Megan Mitton, MLA for Memramcook-Tantramar. “Getting this government to act on climate change is one of my priorities.  We understand the problem, we have the solutions, we need an appropriate response.  An emergency response.  Youth are demanding that we save their future.  The science is clear.  We must act now.”
