Green Party Plan to Make Main Streets Thrive
October 4, 2024
ROGERSVILLE – This morning Green Party leader David Coon and Deputy Leader Kevin Arseneau announced the Green Party’s plan to reduce the small business tax rate from 2.5 percent to 1 percent, just as it is in Prince Edward Island. It would also raise the income threshold at which the higher corporate tax rate kicks in from $500,000 to $700,000.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and some of the very best employers in our communities,” said Coon. “These small business owners live in and understand our communities. They generally buy local for their businesses and support other local businesses, creating community wealth. This makes for a vibrant and more resilient province.”
Green Party Deputy Leader Kevin Arseneau also announced that the Green Party would create a new Department of Community Development and Rural Affairs that would combine the Regional Development Corporation and Opportunities New Brunswick with Tourism to play a key role in facilitating decentralized decision-making and supporting community-led regional development.
“For too long, Liberals and Conservatives have pursued economic development out of Fredericton, putting the needs of large corporations first,” Arseneau added. “It's time for a government that stands up for small businesses that invest in our local economies.”
