Sign our Petition to Give all New Brunswickers the Right to a Healthy Environment!
Did you know New Brunswick doesn't guarantee a healthy environment? This lack of legislation is why we face issues like the Coastal Shell plant troubles that took place in Richibucto and the AIM recycling plant explosion in Saint John. These incidents hurt our health, our communities, and our environment.
People have been driven out of their homes and out of their communities in order to be safe. This needs to change. This spring, the Green Party will work to implement a new law to provide all New Brunswickers with the right to a healthy environment and the tools to ensure this right is respected.
How this bill will create the right to a healthy environment:
- Environmental Rights Commissioner: The bill creates an Environmental Rights Commissioner to act on citizens' concerns and investigate contaminants in soil, water, and air.
- Protection Against Corporate Pollution: Recent pollution incidents, like the Saint John AIM explosion, highlight the need to hold corporations accountable for their actions. Research is increasingly showing that pollution can lead to cancer, neurological diseases like ALS and MS, and other illnesses.
- Preventing Environmental Challenges: We need to create a legal right to a healthy environment, allowing people to live, work, and raise their families in a safe and healthy space.
In the words of David Coon: “We must recognize that the right to a healthy environment is not a luxury but is a fundamental human right.”
Let's join Ontario, Quebec, and PEI in ensuring the right to a healthy and clean environment for all New Brunswickers, for now and for future generations. Add your name and support the Green Party's vision for a safer, healthier New Brunswick.
