Happy New Year from the Green Party of New Brunswick!
As 2025 comes to an end, we hope you’ve taken time with friends and family to rest, reflect, and recharge. Over the last year, Greens across the province have continued to show that politics can be rooted in care—for our communities, our environment, and each other.
Green Party Leader David Coon and Deputy Leader Megan Mitton consistently demonstrate the value of having Green MLAs in the Legislature. Thanks to an amendment by Megan, free 90-day radon kits are now accessible to the public. David called for an emergency legislative debate in response to Trump’s unjustified tariffs, and highlighted the need to empower local farmers to make our economy more resilient and less dependent on the U.S. These are just a few examples of what David and Megan have done in the last year.
Greens bring issues to the table that might otherwise be ignored by both Liberals and Conservatives, like the need to investigate potential environmental causes of the “unusual clusters of neurodegenerative disease” in New Brunswick, calls for proper public consultation and environmental impact assessments on the proposed Tantramar gas plant, advocating for better public transportation, and more.
David Coon successfully tabled An Act Respecting the Right to a Healthy Environment. After advancing to the Law Amendments Committee, the bill has been revised and reintroduced in the Legislature - stay tuned for updates as the bill moves forward!
We’ve got a lot to look forward to heading into 2026! With the next provincial election less than 3 years away, there is–as always–a lot of work to be done, but we have a great team of staff, interns, volunteers, and members who are committed to sending more excellent Green MLAs like David and Megan to the Legislature in the next provincial election.
Here’s to an exciting year ahead - let’s grow together.
