The Green Gazette | Volume 2, Issue 2 | February 2026

These are uncertain and challenging times. In the Green Party of New Brunswick, we remain committed to our principles of living within our ecological means, local self-reliance, participatory democracy, social justice & equality, self-determination & citizenship, and non-violence. The uncomfortable realities we face underscore the importance of resilience, community, and caring for others despite our differences or disagreements.

We believe that when times are tough, that is exactly the time to reaffirm our values – not compromise on them.

Last month, Green MLAs David Coon and Megan Mitton continued to fight for a healthier, safer, and fairer New Brunswick. Our bill, An Act Respecting the Right to a Healthy Environment, has been reintroduced in the Legislature after successfully passing through the Law and Amendments Committee. You can help to pass this bill into law by signing our petition or contacting your MLA to ask them to vote in favour of Bill 23 (formerly Bill 19). Keep reading to see what else David and Megan have been up to.

This February, we’re excited to have 4 regional teams for the annual Coldest Night of the Year walk and fundraiser - a Canada-wide initiative to support local charities helping people experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness. We encourage you to sign up to a team near you or donate to support one of the local charities (see below for details).

Current events often scary and enraging. Following the news may feel overwhelming and disheartening, but we refuse to look the other way. Instead, we’re organizing and working together to make our corner of the world better place for everyone to call home. We invite you to join us.

Your Green Team

“If you are terrified about the chaos in the world right now, I encourage each of you to do your part of engaging, not avoiding. You may not be working on the world stage, or even on the municipal stage, but each of us can play our part. Even simple acts of “Make eye contact and small talk.” are part of the lessons presented in Timothy Snyder’s On Tyranny. Because it is all connected. It is all important.”
