About Dani McLean-Godbout

Dani McLean-Godbout (aged 38) identifies as a queer, non-binary and trans person. They accept most pronouns but “they” is preferred! Dani is the Parti Vert NB Green Party candidate for Grand Falls-Vallée-des-Rivières-Saint-Quentin. They also work for the party as a grassroots mobilizer, with a focus on the campaigns around Moncton, up the Acadian Peninsula and across to the Madawaska region.

Born in a Fredericton hospital in 1985, Dani was thereafter whisked to a French Catholic church in Grand Falls for a baptism. Dani’s anglophone mom is a McLean from the region; while their dad is from one of the francophone Godbout families up north, with some Ouellette mixed in. Some of Dani’s most formative memories are of the falls, hills and playgrounds of Madawaska and Maine.

In 1997, after finishing grade six at l’École Sainte-Anne, Dani’s family moved to Moncton, where Dani finished high school at Mathieu-Martin. Afterwards, Dani studied psychology and literature at l’Université de Moncton. In 2008, with undergrad done, Dani won a federal grant to study at York University, in Toronto. In love with their partner, Chantal, they moved to Ontario for an eight-year adventure! Dani ended up with a doctorate in comparative literature from Western University, in London, Ont.

When Dani and Chantal, still in love, returned to New Brunswick in 2016. Today, they’re raising four cats and a golden retriever named Brie. Chantal works in human resources while Dani has spent the last decade as a communications professional, with special interest in copyediting, translation and marketing.

Dani sees themselves first and foremost as a public servant who supports labour and equity movements everywhere. They also support land rights for First Nations people, the Wabanaki in those areas now called the Maritimes and New England. They’d really like a province governed by better MLAs, led by David, Megan, Kevin, alongside the several more new representatives we will elect in October, together.

Politically, Dani aligns with the political movements most associated to progressive causes, human rights, and a truly ethical redistribution of wealth. Dani is especially aligned with Green policies ending the use of harmful glyphosates in forest management, ending the misery of deep poverty and supporting community-based healthcare everywhere people live.
