PEI Greens Make History as Official Opposition

(Fredericton, April 24, 2019) – David Coon, Leader of the Green Party of NB and MLA for Fredericton-South, congratulates Peter Bevan-Baker and the other 7 Green MLAs who were elected in last night’s historic win.

“We knew the Greens would do very well yesterday.  Forming the Official Opposition for the first time in Canadian history represents a new day in Canadian politics.  As Official Opposition, the PEI Greens will be the government in waiting.  I want to congratulate Premier-elect Dennis King on his win, and extend thanks for the public service of out-going Premier Wade McLaughlin.  I have no doubt the leaders will find the necessary common ground to deliver good governance to Islanders in this new minority government.”

PEI elected 8 Greens last night, including 5 of the 6 women elected to the Legislative Assembly.  There will be a by-election within three months to fill the seat that was left vacant following the death of Green candidate Josh Underhay.
