MA - Poverty Awareness Panel and BBQ

MLA David Coon and STU Social Work Student Interns to host poverty awareness panel and barbecue

Fredericton – Friday, June 15th, social work students working with David Coon’s Constituency Office will be hosting a poverty awareness campaign panel and BBQ at the Fredericton Multicultural Association from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. that addresses harmful government policies and our inadequate social safety net.

"Many of the constituents who visit my office looking for help live in poverty that is perpetuated by current policies and practices that have to change," said Coon, MLA for Fredericton South. “I’m looking forward to the panel discussion and the opportunity to discuss the impact of these detrimental policies on our community.”

The panel will discuss social assistance rates as well as the Household Income Policy. After the panel, there will be a free barbecue and opportunity for those in attendance to take action on these issues.

Panelists include:

  • Kari Hirst: Peer Advisory Group on Homelessness
  • Scott Banks: Fredericton Outreach/John Howard Society
